How to wash Bamboo Sheets, Blankets, and Towels all while keeping your laundry room clean!

Bamboo Details & Washing Instructions

We spend a whole one-third of our lives in bed! That equates to approximately 25 years asleep which is 9,125 days or 56 hours every week. That’s a significant amount of time with our skin in one-on-one contact with bedding products, including sheets, comforters, and duvets.

Because our skin is so important as our first line of defense against germs and other environmental aggressors, for starters a safe, healthy bedding material like bamboo is a superior choice to help ensure our health. It’s also a sound choice for bath towels, hand towels, and washcloths that are in intimate contact with our skin.

Comfort
  • Blissful soft making it one of the most comfortable feeling fabrics.
  • Breathable and will enhance your sleeping by keeping you just the right temperature summer or winter.

Healthy
  • Naturally hypoallergenic.
  • Bamboo’s antibacterial significance lies in its ability to destroy or block bacteria’s growth.
  • Does not absorb moisture, which means it discourages one of the primary triggers of allergies and dust mites.
  • Perfect for helping little ones sleep soundly. Children can be very sensitive, especially to harsh chemicals and synthetic fabrics. A large majority of children’s bedding is made from these materials; at Ganje’s we firmly believe that children need quality, safe, and natural products!

Environmental Friendly
  • Renewable at an astonishing rate! Like reseeding your front yard with grass, bamboo can reach full height within eight to 10 weeks, regenerates from its own roots, and doesn’t need any pesticides or fertilizer.
  • Bamboo plants can grow at astonishing rates, 20 times faster than trees to be exact and produces approximately 35% more oxygen!

Durable
    • Bamboo fibers are stretched across the entire length of the bedding, rather than small and short fibers being interwoven, which makes them less likely to tear or pill.
    • Bamboo is nonabsorbent! This means the oils from your skin will not stain your bamboo bedding.

Please Note: Ganje’s only purchase naturally processed/ organic 100% bamboo fabric. We do not use bamboo viscose products, which removes the antibacterial properties during the process of manufacturing.

Bamboo Bedding Washing

We recommend washing bedding that is directly in contact with your skin once a week. Comforters and duvets should be washed every one to two months.
  • Bamboo bedding is naturally antibacterial so it can be washed in cold or warm water with a gentle washing detergent.
  • Spot remover can be used but please ensure it is chlorine free.
  • Bamboo, by nature, will feel stiff coming out of the washer…this is normal…don’t worry! They will be soft and fluffy as soon as they are dried in the dryer.
  • Dry your bedding on low heat and remove immediately. We do not recommend dryer sheets, fabric softener or bleach.
  • If you see a little extra lint, again don’t worry! This is normal and is only the short fibers releasing making your bedding even softer. This will only happen the first couple of times.
  • If you choose to line dry your lines, we suggest to pop them in the dryer for five minutes to fluff them up!
  • If you have left them in the dryer and they have a few wrinkles, just fluff them in the dryer for 10 minutes or so on high heat and take them out immediately…perfectly perfect!

Interesting Tips!
  • Dried blood, no problem. Have the person who bled on the material spit on the stain, rinse in cold water, and then wash as usual! It is the acid in your spit that will take ca
  • re of this stain!

Washing Bamboo Towels

One of the biggest problems with bath/ kitchen towels is the breeding of bacteria! They get wet, usually at least once a day, and sometimes never dry completely. This is why bamboo towels are the perfectly perfect choice! Bamboo material is naturally antibacterial, which means the musty and moldy smell that bath and kitchen towels so often get will not happen with bambooUse gentle detergent. Not only is this better for your health, but for the environment as well. Remember that even though the color in your new bamboo towels is colorfast you will have to be careful with some of the products you use. The following are just a few examples of the many products that may discolor or fade your towels.

  • Chlorine Bleach
  • Hydrogen peroxide found in many cosmetics and acne products
  • Benzoyl Peroxide found in many cosmetics and acne products
  • Toothpaste and teeth whiteners

Please wash your towels immediately after purchase. This will reduce any snagging by tightening the weave structure. If you do snag a towel just cut off the little snag and your towels are good as new.

Bath Towels Washing
  • Wash in cold or warm water at least once a week. We may even go so far as to say every 3 days is a good amount of time…but that's up to the individual!

Washcloths and Face Towels Washing
Washcloths are closer to your face than most anything else scrubbing all that make-up off or the accumulation of sweat and dead skin cells after a hard day’s work.
  • Be kind to your face and wash your washcloths often…we suggest every 3 days. This keeps your towels clean and will reduce any acne or other infections from accumulating. If you do have an active situation with acne or an infection, we would suggest washing them daily.

Washing the Washing Machine
Washing items that may contain heavy amounts of soiled fabrics from children, pets, and life not to mention detergents and hard water deposits can build up over time. So we suggest disinfecting your washing machine every month.

All you have to do is this-

Front Loading Washers
  • Start by cleaning the gasket around the opening. This accumulates a lot of the residual gunk like hair, papers accidentally left in pockets ;)  and soap scum, which will all eventually lead to mildew and mold. Spray with white vinegar, let sit for 30 minutes to an hour with the door closed to ensure the surface stays wet,  and wipe clean. White vinegar contains a small amount of acetic acid and when in contact with anything alkaline, a pH greater than 7, it will decrease the pH balance and restore a non-smelly environment.
  • Now it’s time to clean the drum. Add 1 1/2 cups white cleaning vinegar (6% acidity) to the detergent dispenser and 1/2 cup of the same vinegar to the pre-wash dispenser.  Run a complete wash cycle on the hottest setting.
  • Now it’s time for the baking soda wash. Add 1/2 cup of baking soda to the drum and 1/8 of a cup of laundry detergent to the dispenser. Baking soda will raise the alkalinity and help the laundry soap do its job. Run a wash cycle on the hottest cycle and presto! Use a rag or cloth to dry the inside of the drum and then wipe the outside clean and sparkly.
  • A fresh washer = fresh laundry.
  • Want to extend the cleanliness of your freshly cleaned washer? After each wash leave the door open to allow the drum to dry. This will prevent mold and mildew from having a perfectly wet environment to reproduce and will alleviate the need to clean your washer more frequently.

  • Add four cups of white cleaning vinegar (6% acidity) to the drum. Set the cycle to the hottest setting and start wash. Let the cycle run for approximately 5 minutes to mix up the vinegar and water and allow it to splash over all the surfaces inside the drum. Now pause the cycle for approximately an hour, set a timer…let the vinegar do its job!
  • It is a perfect time, while the washer is paused, to wipe down the outside and lid. Use a rag or cloth and an old toothbrush for the hard to reach areas, dip into the vinegar mixture in the drum and get to work.
  • Now it’s time to take a break and enjoy that perfect ice tea or hot cappuccino, put your feet up and dive into that book.
  • Ding, ding, ding…start the washer and let it finish its cycle.
  • Once that cycle is complete, add one cup of baking soda to the washer and run a cycle on the hottest setting.
  • Once complete wipe the inside of the drum dry.
  • Want to extend the cleanliness of your freshly cleaned washer? After each wash leave the door open to allow the drum to dry. This will prevent mold and mildew from having a perfectly wet environment to reproduce and will alleviate the need to clean your washer more frequently!
